Oral Surgery

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

Fear orย anxiety over dental treatment is common for most people, especially when facingย surgical procedures. Oral Surgeons are trained toย become experts in all aspectsย of pain and anxiety control, including general anesthesia/deep sedation, andย conscious sedation. Youโ€™ll receive drugs via an IV line, go toย sleep and haveย no memory of the procedure. During the surgery, your heart rate, blood pressureย and breathing will be carefully monitored. When the procedure isย complete, theย anesthesia will be flushed from your body and youโ€™ll wake up.

About Oral Surgery

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teethย usually begin to come in between the ages of 17 and 21. Dentists call theseย teeth third molars. Wisdom teeth that are healthy and properly positioned canย be an asset. In most cases, though,ย wisdom teeth remain impacted, trappedย beneath the gum and bone and against the teeth in front of them. They may eruptย only partially, often because other teeth crowd the jaw. Partially eruptedย teeth may tilt sideways andย cause damage to adjacent teeth.

Impacted Canines

An impacted tooth simply means that it isย โ€œstuckโ€ and cannot erupt into function. Patients frequently develop problemsย with impacted third molar (wisdom) teeth. An impacted tooth can lead to anย infectionย called pericoronitis. If untreated, this infection can spread to theย throat or into the neck. Severe infections require a hospital stay and surgery.ย Impacted teeth also can get cavities. An impacted tooth can push on theย neighboring molar. This can lead to tooth movement, decay or gum disease. Itย also can change the way your teeth come together.

Dental Implants

Dental implantsย are titanium metal cylinders that replace tooth roots. They are surgicallyย placed into the jaw bone where the bone grows into them and locks them inย place. Once in place, they allow yourย dentist to mount replacement teeth ontoย them. Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support forย artificial teeth. Dentures and bridges mounted to implants wonโ€™t slip or shiftย in your mouth โ€“ an especiallyย important benefit when eating and speaking. Thisย secure fit helps the dentures and bridges as well as individual crowns placedย over implants feel more natural than conventional bridges or dentures.

Bone Grafting

Over a period ofย time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies or is reabsorbed.ย This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity ofย bone suitable for placement of dentalย implants. Today we have the ability toย grow bone where needed.ย ย An oral surgeonย may talk to you about undergoing a bone graft for dental implants if heย believes that your jaw bone is too thin or soft to keep the implant inย place inย its current state.

Sinus Lift

A sinus lift isย surgery that adds bone to your upper jaw in the area of your molars andย premolars. Itโ€™s sometimes called a sinus augmentation. Sinus bone grafts areย also performed to replace bone in the posteriorย upper jaw. In addition, specialย membranes may be utilized that dissolve under the gum and protect the boneย graft and encourage bone regeneration. This is called guided bone regenerationย or guided tissue regeneration.

Oral Pathology

Oral Surgeons diagnose and manageย patients with diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region, including cysts,ย benign and malignant tumors, soft tissue, and severeย infections of the oralย cavity and salivary glands. The reconstruction of the mouth and face followingย the removal of tumors represents the ability of the oral and maxillofacialย surgeon toย return patients to optimum levels of appearance and function.

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

TMJ disorders develop for many reasons. You might clench or grind yourย teeth, experience tightening of your jaw muscles and stress to yourย TM joint.ย You may have a damaged jaw joint due to injury or disease. Injuries andย arthritis can damage the joint directly or stretch or tear the muscleย ligaments. As a result, the disk,ย which is made of cartilage and functions asย the โ€œcushionโ€ of the jaw joint, can slip out of position. Whatever the cause,ย the results may include a misaligned bite, pain, clicking or aย grating noiseย when you open your mouth or trouble opening your mouth wide.

My first time here was an emergency appointment. I was impressed with the bright and immaculate waiting area. Receptionist was very welcoming and pleasant. I was quickly taken to exam room. The dental assistant was so nice and kind. The dentist was great! They both calmed my fears and I felt that I was in good hands. My procedure went well. Everything explained and a plan was made for future appointments. I donโ€™t know all of the names( I was very nervous when introduced to everyone)but I will. At checkout, she was also friendly, took her time explaining what will be needed next. I thank each one so much. Most importantly, I have a new dentist. Highly recommended.

I am very pleased with the dental care I am receiving from Dr. Alex Quintner and his team. Having all my natural teeth removed and replaced with permanent dentures is something I have been putting off for years. I am very glad to finally have the process well underway and I am extremely satisfied with the results. Ultimately it will take some months before I have the finished product but one day of surgery and I walked out with temporary fixed dentures. It was an immediate improvement. Even considering the bit of physical discomfort from the surgery and a short time thereafter, I was promptly recognizing a vast improvement over what I had come accustomed to tolerating day in and day out for years prior. Thanks!

Best dentist I have ever come across in the 64 years of my life. Meticulous, careful, and very caring. The office is equipped with the latest technology (for example a 3 D printer) which makes receiving crowns, implants, and night guards etc. so much faster. Highly recommend the dentists there.

I was treated very well by everyone I came in contact with and Dr Alex really took his time explaining the different procedures available. Going to the dentist is no oneโ€™s idea of a fun time, but it doesnโ€™t get much better than this.
